When the ECC was granted independence from the US Episcopal Church, pensions for the clergy were no longer available.

The ECC currently has 28 clergy.  Their average salary prior to reunification was  $55 US per month.  They dedicated their entire lives to ministry, and then had no security upon retirement.

Thanks to the reunification decision made at General Convention in July 2018, Clergy pensions were re-instated, and salaries have been increased to $200 per month - still a challenging salary in Cuba - but a significant improvement.

The US Episcopal Church launched an effort to raise funds to re-fund the pension, and in 2019, successfully raised almost $800,000 - thanks to the generosity of many churches across the country..
